David whistled joyfully while he approached his father’s home, worshipping God. He was glad to be home after what he’d been through with the flock of sheep belonging to his family. His outer coat was torn; mud was on both his hair and face.

Earlier that day, a lion had tried to steal one of his lambs. He wasn’t going to allow this to happen! That lamb was important to David. So, he fought back and grabbed his lamb from the mouth of that lion! He saved that lamb.

His father Jesse has sent someone to ask him to leave the sheep and to come home as quickly as possible as there’s a visitor who’s asking for him.

As he approached his father’s homestead, he saw all his brothers lined up. When they saw his clothes and face, they giggled.

As David came still closer, smelling like sheep as usual, his brothers were embarrassed.
David’s father asked him to go through the back and to quickly get changed and to come back to see the visitor.

David obeyed.

“Meet my youngest son, David.” Jesse introduced him to Prophet Samuel.

The prophet checked him out. David glowed with health and good looks.

As Samuel had a jar of oil in his hand, he heard the Lord say to him clearly, “Rise and anoint him; this is the one.” (1 Samuel 16:12)

Before David arrived, Prophet Samuel had checked out all the other seven sons of Jesse but God didn’t guide him to anoint them as king as the successor of King Saul. In fact, neither Samuel, Jesse nor the brothers had expected God to pick the youngest son,

Surprisingly, David was chosen over all the other sons. Chosen and anointed as king.

Dear God, I want to pass on a strong spiritual legacy. Can you please help me to pray long enough, receive and apply divine wisdom to my actions in the name of Jesus I ask.

Throughout this day: Read 1 Samuel Chapter 16 and think about how David was chosen.

(Note that some details above are from my imagination, to help us put ourselves into the story.)
