What we pray for matters. Who we pray to matters even more. When our supplications are offered to the most holy and powerful Trinity - Father, Son and Holy Spirit - there’s no telling what magnificent answers will follow.
Today’s verses contain rich content I often request from God, who is almighty and all powerful, at all times. Though my words may not be as eloquent as Paul’s, it’s no less of an ask and, oh, how my God responds! Glorious, wisdom, revelation, enlightened, hope, riches, inheritance - a blazing treasure that can be expected if I keep asking, as Paul did.
Lifting this New Testament prayer to my sovereign God has the potential to give way to a reply far beyond my understanding. It’s the kind of exciting occurrence that gets me out of bed every morning. Particularly because of how much I need divine intervention in my life.
When I’m teetering on the edge of deeply rooted and long lasting discouragement, selfishness or down right defiance against God and others, I deserve the disciplinary actions of God’s word once I finally realize how far off track I’ve wandered.
My Father’s voice echoes in the pages of Scripture. Jesus calls to me from a convicting message. The Holy Spirit prompts my heart to cry out for mercy and forgiveness. It’s in those pleading moments that I crumple in humility, confidently declaring that I am the most wretched sinner to which Paul has nothing on me. The horrible things I do, say and think make me completely unworthy to be in the presence of a most holy God.
Yet, that’s where God calls me to be, then covers me in his grace as I fall to my knees, lift my eyes to the eternal and keep asking for what I know I need every minute of every day. To persevere in the praying of today’s Scripture, believing it’s being answered, day by day, until its fulfillment before the Lord in glory.
So don’t stop. Keep asking for all that today’s verses say is yours and mine to possess. God’s Word, with every one of his promises, is for those who truly follow him and believe.
Father God, thank you for the saving grace you shower down on me when I’ve gone astray from your Word and ways. I don’t deserve that kind of mercy but you see the depths of my heart and that’s why you, lovingly, restore me. You are awesome! I love and praise you for that goodness, in Jesus’s name. Amen.
Throughout This Day: Think of a time when you knew you had drifted from the Lord. Reflect on the method God used to bring you back to him, lovingly restoring you. Give him praise for that love which knows no bounds in blessing you.
