We have a little pet chihuahua dog in our house.

If I sit on the couch she will sit next to me. If I get up to go to the kitchen for a snack or to the bathroom, she will follow. Even if I say out loud, “I will be right back”, I imagine in her little doggie brain she is thinking, “That’s okay, I would feel much more comfortable if I came along with you.” Sometimes it’s annoying, sometimes it’s funny, and sometimes it is reassuring.

I used to think it was silly to include God in everything I did. But one day I realized that God wants to be involved in everything I do, no matter how small or trivial I think it is.

I find myself wanting to be wherever the Holy Spirit is. Wherever the Spirit would go, then I would want to go there as well. Good things seem to follow wherever the Spirit goes. There is peace and comfort there. And I am all about being comfortable.

The best part is that God does not find you annoying and loves to reassure you along the journey. As toddlers, we followed our parents everywhere, right? We wanted that companionship, comfort, and protection.

Just as my dog wants to follow me around, as children of God we should do the same. How much calmer would our lives be if we just followed after the Spirit in everything we did?

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for sending us a comforter and guide in the Holy Spirit. Thank you for not leaving us to fend for ourselves and for understanding that we need help. Please help me to remember to include you in all that I do. In Jesus name, amen.

Throughout the Day: Make it a priority to be thankful for everything that happens today. Try your best to not complain at all, and to follow what God’s Spirit tells you. See how your spirit feels at the end of the day.
