Are you in the throes of child-rearing? Or maybe you work with children as an educator or church volunteer. Years ago, God gave me Hebrews 6:10: “He will not forget how hard you have worked for him and how you have shown your love to him by caring for other believers…” This applies to our impossibly arduous work as parents/instructors with all its thankless drudgery. Yes, these children count as believers or potential Jesus followers!

We have a holy calling toward them. We have a responsibility to teach, train, and disciple children with the truths of God’s word. To keep on loving despite rebellious attitudes. To keep on teaching in spite of indifferent, seemingly deaf ears. We never know which of the seeds we plant will bear a wonderful harvest down the road.

Ask God for the control of the Holy Spirit instead of trying to dredge up your own self-control. Confess to him and the children when you sin. Receive their forgiveness and move on. Ask him to help you to be the mature one in your interactions with kids and not let your emotions control you. Teach children how to handle conflict God’s way.

I know some, or perhaps many, of you are feeling overwhelmed with this responsibility because you have not studied the Bible enough to teach it to children. Some of you are still emotionally immature and need more healing to deal with what children may throw at you. Do you want to leave a rich spiritual legacy to these children? Keep going towards Jesus. It starts with a single step. Trying to fix everything at once will only lead to more overwhelming feelings. But if you ask God for wisdom and the resources that you specifically need, he will not fail you.

Dear Lord, thank you that you see and remember my work with the children. Help me to teach them to know you, love and serve you. I can’t do it without your power.
