We as humans take the word “eternity” for granted. I was at the shoe store with my wife, and I complained to my friends that we were there for an eternity, but in reality it was closer to 37 minutes. Or there’s the classic case of the college student leaving an end-of-year review for a professor that reads, “If I had one hour to live, I would want to spend it in your class, because it feels like an eternity.”

Everything about God is about eternity. He has always existed. He has no beginning. He has no end. He sees time equally and his love is eternal.

People do not realize that Heaven is real, Hell is real, and eternity is a very long time. Our lives may be a short period of time in the grand scheme of things, but our soul is tied to eternity.

God understands this and wants you to carefully consider eternity and where you will be spending it.

No matter what you have done, are doing, or will do in the future, no matter how far you drift away from God, even if he has to reach way down, he will pick you up. He has an eternal love for you that will never diminish. It will never fail. Spend eternity with him and I promise you that it will only feel like one hour.

Dear heavenly Father, thank you for your eternal love. Help me to show it to others so they can know and experience it for themselves. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Go Deeper — If you have given your life to Christ, write down the date. That is when your eternity began. Begin to really live like it, serving God and others.
