Have you ever fallen into a rut of not following the right principles? I know I have, and because of our fallen nature, I think everyone on earth has too. If you’re looking for perfection in human beings, you’ll be disappointed. But how do we know and follow the right principles? Or to put it another way, how do we get the wisdom that we need to live right so things will fall into place for us?

Being wise doesn’t mean that we won’t face any trouble or persecution. However, it can help us avoid some unnecessary trouble. While persecution and trouble can be instructive, they aren’t the most desirable methods of learning.

When someone discerns between right and wrong, that’s wisdom. What is right and wrong is not rocket science. If we stay in the Word of God and let it grab hold of our hearts, it will teach us what is right and wrong and also supply God’s power to help us.

But we need to have hearts ready to learn. When we’re willing to hear and obey the Father’s instruction through the Word, it’s the way to life. It helps us to live wisely.

Just as we need to take in fresh food for our bodies daily, we need to seek God continuously to hear his direction. We hear God primarily through his Word and staying in the Word teaches us to discern if things we hear are from God or not.

So, let’s turn our hearts to God’s Word as often as we can so we can listen to God’s heart and live wisely, avoiding difficulties that can result from our bad choices.

Father God, I incline my heart toward yours so I can be teachable. Help me to receive your wisdom, to know what is right and wrong, and grant me grace to walk in your ways, in Jesus’ name I ask.

Throughout this day: Make some time to meditate on and pray through these scripture verses:

All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. Colossians 3:16 NLT

Turn my heart toward your statutes and not toward selfish gain. Psalms 119:36 NIV
