“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” Psalm 34:18

We’ve all experienced heartbreak. It can be one of the most discouraging feelings in life. In these times, I’ve often found myself wondering where God is, or if He even cares.

The last few months have been difficult for me. Relationships have ended, a loved one has passed away, unexpected bills have surfaced, and even a medical diagnosis has made life more complicated.

But Scripture is full of reminders that God does care when we are disappointed. And not only that, He knows what we’re going through because He experienced life as a human. God is close to the brokenhearted because He knows what it's like to have a broken heart.

Jesus lived and died as one of us, but then He rose again. In this we can take hope: one day, we too will rise to be united with Christ. We will be given new bodies free from pain, suffering, and heartbreak. Whatever disappointments we’ve known on this earth will fade away as we enter fully into the presence of Jesus.

So the next time you’re feeling discouraged or disappointed about something in your life, remember that God shares your sorrow. He is there with you in those dark, lonely moments, and you will share eternity with Him in a restored world free from heartbreak.

Lord Jesus, thank You for being close to me when I’m heartbroken and feeling alone. You know what it means to suffer, and for that, I am so grateful. Remind me how to have faith in what You’ve promised, and not to let the disappointments of life rob me of the joy of knowing You. Amen.
