One of the most exciting days in sports is Opening Day in baseball. Tons of fans come out around the country to support their favorite team. New players debut for their teams and everyone eagerly waits for them to get that first hit. A base hit is good, a double is better, a triple is excellent, but a home run is what it’s all about. If it’s a tie game in the final inning, only a home run will win the game. Nothing less than that matters.

This same concept is true in our spiritual life. Many of us think if we do certain things, that will eventually get us “home” — eternity with God. But we are wrong. We might think those things get us to first, second, or even third base, but there too, we are mistaken. In God’s eyes, only a home run matters. We can't hit this home run. Only Jesus can and has, by living the perfect human life God demands, giving his life to free us from all our wrongdoing, and rising to eternal life and returning to his Father.

Thankfully, God puts Jesus’ unique home run to our account when we become a member of his team. He tells us that anyone who turns away from sin, trusts in Jesus as their Master and Savior, and commits to following him by faith becomes part of his team, his family, and joins Jesus in his eternal win.

Have you decided to join his team for eternity? Have you committed your life to trusting in Jesus and following him? Are you growing in your relationship with him?

In the end, this is the only thing that matters. If you haven’t made that decision today, I encourage you to acknowledge Jesus as your Master and Deliver and commit to follow him by faith. Will you join the winning team?? Jesus promises us that if we turn to him in repentance that when we die, we become part of his team, his family. We go from death to life, and can know we will live with him forever, fully delivered from all evil. So, don’t wait another inning, make the decision to follow Jesus today.

Jesus, I admit that I am a sinner and can not overcome sin in my own strength or through my own efforts. I can not hit the perfect home run your Father requires. Thank you for doing it in my place by dying on the cross and rising to eternal life. I ask you to save me from my sins, to come live in my through your Spirit and be the ruler of my life from this day forward. Amen!

Throughout This Day: Thank Jesus often for inviting you to live on his team for eternity, and for winning your salvation through his unique and perfect home run.
