They placed a crown of thorns on Jesus’ head.

They wanted to hurt him, mock him, shame him, and reduce him to nothing. So, they placed him on the cross. He could have stopped them, yet he wanted the will of the Father more than his own benefits. He yearned to fulfil God’s purpose.

It appeared that the enemy was getting their way.It was painful for him and for his followers. It appeared that he could not defend himself. It looked like it was the end of his kingdom.

He rose again. It is proven.

Something shifted in the spiritual world. His authority was beyond all other authorities. His kingdom was established. None of this happened with ordinary wisdom, but God’s way.

So, instead of shaming him, they were ashamed.

The Father granted him a seat at his right hand. He reigned. And he will reign forever.

So, those who have faith in him are seated in him in the heavenlies. If we accept that seat, we find rest; rest for our souls.

He operates his life’s works from that place of authority and rest. So shall we. We should rest in him. By grace, we access this rest.

Dear Lord, thank you for going to the cross for me. Heavenly Father, grant me strength so I can live humbly and fulfill your purposes in my life, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Throughout This Day: Reflect on this verse: Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you (James 4:10, ESV).
