Choices. We make them every day. They can range from easy to difficult. What will I eat for breakfast? Right up to a more difficult life-changing choice such as one requiring a move far away from home.
Choices make up life. There are wise choices and foolish choices. We find ourselves at the crossroads of good and bad decisions all the time.
They say that experience is the best teacher, and there is some truth to that, but the lesson I’ve learned is to listen to the guidance of the Holy Spirit and not depend solely on my own knowledge.
Recently, I had to decide on a surgery I needed to undergo. How extensive did I want or need the procedure to be? The doctor left the decision to me. I read some medical journals and did research. However, the best guide was the Holy Spirit. I prayed to make the right choice and for God to guide me. He did!
His guidance showed the right choice for me. The way you know you have made the right choice is that there’s an assurance and peace that you possess. I felt steady and confident in my decision, knowing God guided me.
Many people or things can guide you in life. However, once you are sure that the choices you are considering are each in line with God’s word in general, the best decision guide is the Holy Spirit. I’ve learned not to lean on my own understanding. At its best, it’s still limited. God knows my future, so he is the best guide for that future. I would encourage everyone to look to God for guidance today. He will never lead you down the wrong path of life.
Lord, thank you for your guidance in life. Please guide my decisions today. Give me wisdom, peace, and the courage to follow your lead. Amen.
