“We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.” Romans 12:6-8

Have you ever heard someone say, “I can’t do anything right! I’m such a failure.” There are people whose motivation and happiness are all tangled up in constant negativity. Before the Spirit dwelled in my heart, I used to beat myself up all the time. I now possess the Scriptural power to conquer the thinking that defeated me. Scripture taught me that we all have different gifts and there are things that we each are better prepared to do.

The Bible says, For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” (Ephesians 2:8-11, emphasis mine). I know that some things I do will be easy and others difficult; so when possible, I seek to do those things that I have been spiritually gifted in in order to bless others.

The new year is a great time to analyze our thoughts and deeds because it is so easy to fall into a rut. To avoid complacency and missing the blessings of work, let’s look the admonitions of Scripture: Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace… And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” (Colossians 3:15,17)

Scripture can help us be mindful of our attitude about our work and be diligent and cheerful about the tasks before us. May you be filled with His peace knowing that the gifts you have are perfectly and carefully chosen by a God who loves you!
