Now that I’m older, Netflix and naps are my favorite pastimes, but I used to play video games a lot as a kid. My favorite games were the ones in which I had to go through obstacles and enemies to complete my mission. My all-time favorite was Super Mario Brothers. My mother was always telling me to shut off the game and to go outside to play.

If I had listened to my mother (for the record you really should listen to your mother), I never would have learned an important lesson. In video games, whenever you meet enemies that means you are going the right way. If things are flowing along smoothly with no obstacles in your way then you are headed in the wrong direction.

It is like that in life. If it is too easy then it is not worth it. Personally I know Kung-Fu, Jujitsu, Karate, and about 17 other dangerous sounding words. But when multiple enemies come up against me, I don’t actually know how to do any of that stuff. But this verse reminds me what I should do. Look for God to help.

When the wrong kind of people or evil spirits come your way, be at peace, knowing that you are going the right way. When you meet obstacles and enemies, God is going to be right there with you to fight with and for you. It is a promise. But, unlike in video games, you just have to be still and let him.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for your Word that guides us and leads us in the right direction. Even if it seems dangerous and we are unclear of where to go and what to do, help us to remain still and to trust in you our Maker. In Jesus’ name, amen.
