Job 42:2 is a verse that anchors my faith. Job’s conclusion came after a lengthy and hard trial. Yet through it all, he recognized the hand of God upon his life.

I think of how Job cried out that he wished his words were written down (Job 19:23). I am so grateful that the Lord included Job’s trial for us all to read. When all the rapid-fire cataclysmic events took place, he did not sin in his thoughts or words. What an excellent example!

We are all created in the image of God to glorify him. We were in the heart of God before he formed us in our mother’s womb. Everything that he has allowed has his purpose stamped on it. Every trial we have ever gone through was seeded with his grace, mercy, and unconditional love.

We may question “Why…” but is it more helpful to ask with a “What?” in mind. What does God want to accomplish in my trial? What is he doing to bring glory to himself? When we recall Job’s words, we can truly rest, knowing God is indeed in control.

He will never give us a purposeless trial. He masterfully orchestrates every aspect of our lives. We may not understand our trials this side of glory, but we can rest assured that he is using them to accomplish his purpose that will never be thwarted.

Father God, I want to thank you that your arm is not short concerning your promises to us. Thank you for recording Job’s experience. Though Job did not know how Satan was behind it all, he continued to trust. Help us all trust you explicitly in our trials, knowing that your purpose is being accomplished. Amen.
