“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.”  Matthew 7:7-8

Recently, I have experienced the truth of these verses in a very personal way. My husband has been struggling with health issues over the last year. My longing has always been for his complete healing. While I pray for that regularly, I also pray that God would use these difficulties to help us trust Him more. I want Him to make us more like His Son Jesus.

I have asked for God’s peace, which passes all worldly understanding. In the middle of many sleepless nights, when worry and fear would otherwise grip me, God has answered my prayers for His peace to guard my heart and mind. We have sought out friends for prayer. God has blessed my husband with several friends who pray for and with him regularly, and who have also been a great encouragement to him. As I persistently knock on the door through prayer, God has given me things I did not even ask for, such as an extra measure of strength to accomplish tasks that my husband and I carried together before he became sick.

As I see little health improvements, I am hopeful that my husband will one day recover. But I know that God is using these trials to strengthen and mature our faith, and that God answers prayer, whether or not my husband’s health fully returns or not.

God, Thank you for providing for all of my needs, both physically and spiritually. Help me to trust You in all circumstances, and give You the glory as You answer my prayers. Amen.

Take Action:

God delights in providing for our needs when we come to him in prayer. Do you need a job, a change in your attitude, a restored relationship, or peace through a difficult time? Ask God for something very specific that you need right now--and then keep asking! The more specific the prayer, the more evident it will be when God answers (in His way, and His timing), and you can give Him all the glory! Can we pray for you today?
