What we think and speak affects every aspect of our lives. Our thoughts become words, then actions, and finally habits. What we speak influences not only ourselves but also those around us.
Because our words and actions first come from our thoughts, we can choose to enhance our health and sense of well being, or we can create disease and distress. Proverbs 23:7 in NKJV says, “For as he thinks in his heart, so is he”.
Proverbs 16:23-24 NKJV says, “The heart of the wise teaches his mouth, and adds learning to his lips. Pleasant words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the bones.” Pleasant words provide structure and substance that build others up. King Solomon used honeycomb as an example. The holes in the honeycomb mesh resemble how bones look on the inside. It gives them their strength. Bones in Scripture correlate to our inner being. Yes, our thoughts and words affect our bones.
When we dwell negatively on our circumstances, we become gloomy and despondent. Our hearts get heavy and our inner peace is destroyed. However when we turn our thoughts to the Lord, our heart is lifted through praise.
Hebrews 13:15 ESV says, “Through him then let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that acknowledge his name.”
Father God, I am so thankful for the power of your word. As I read it for understanding, you intercept my wrong thinking to bring course correction. Remind me, Holy Spirit, the moment a negative thought comes, so I can abort it through praise. Hallelujah!
Throughout this day: Ask God to remind you, whenever you need it, to praise and thank him, instead of speaking words of complaint, discouragement or criticism. As you thank him, remember that you are building inner strength. The classic hymn Wonderful Words of Life
may be an encouragement.
