Have you ever been the target of someone’s anger? Perhaps it was misplaced, and you were just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Anger was directed towards you for no clear reason. Or perhaps, if you’re honest, you were the person being unkind. Either way, both of these scenarios involve forgiveness that needs to be given or received.

Often, when someone lashes out, it’s a sign of something deeper. It could be a result of stress, pain, or struggles we can’t see. That doesn’t excuse harmful behavior, but it reminds us that there’s usually more going on beneath the surface.

That is why I always try to respond with compassion in these situations. Jesus shows me compassion and forgives me all the time. As his follower, I’m called to reflect that same grace. Each time I choose to forgive, I become a living witness of God's mercy—one of the clearest ways to demonstrate his heart to the world.

Forgiveness isn’t always easy—but it is always powerful. Whether we’re the ones needing grace or the ones called to extend it, may we be motivated by the forgiveness that God in Christ has extended to us. May we choose to respond not with judgment, but with grace. And in doing so, may our lives become living testimonies of the mercy we've received through Jesus.

Dear God, shape my heart to look more like yours. Help me to extend mercy, compassion and forgiveness to others. Amen.

Throughout this day: As you go through your day, look for moments to show grace and extend forgiveness.
