Every month, I submit a devotional to TheLife.com exploring what God has been teaching me in his word in the hopes that it encourages you. Together, we get to learn and grow in wonder of God’s character and truth. But today, I sit with my laptop, and I feel weary. I don’t have much to give right now. God has been teaching me a lot, but it’s still sinking in.

Maybe you’re in a similar place. Weary, without much to give. It is easy, when we feel that way, to beat ourselves up. To feel shame, fear, doubt, or frustration. But friend, today I’m reminded that I’m not God. You’re not God either. And that is such a relief.

We don’t have to have things to give, we just get to trust in God. When we plop ourselves down at his feet, he is the one who makes us grow. He waters us and shields us and prunes us. We don’t have to be the gardener, just the tree!

Inevitably, there are times when heat comes or years of drought. Today’s verses do not say that those won’t happen, rather that we do not need to be afraid when they do. Why? Because God is trustworthy. So will we trust in him and be okay with not being God?

If you are weary, take a deep breath. Tell God all that weighs on you and let go of the shame, fear, and control. He’s got it. He’s got you.

Heavenly Father, thank you that you are God and I am not. I am so grateful that you give me everything I need, even during dry and weary times. Help me to trust you in all circumstances, even when my natural bent would rather be toward fear or anxiety. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
