“Learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression; bring justice to the fatherless, plead the widow’s cause.” Isaiah 1:17 (ESV)

I stared at her face on the ultrasound picture. Whether it was a he or she, which would be possible to know at this point, I hadn’t a clue, but I looked at her eyes, her well-shaped head and torso, and her arms stretched up beside her face. There was no mistaking that this was a beautiful baby with fully-formed body parts still growing inside her mother’s womb. I could see that, but her mother could not. All her mother could think of was how hard life would be if this baby made it into the world. And all her mother could see was the possibility of another girl, unwanted and unnecessary to her life.

But we know that no child is unwanted or unnecessary to God. And because God values this unborn child’s life so much, we should too. But she is voiceless at the moment, and she has no lawyer to defend her against her mother. There’s no one to stand in the gap to bring her justice and allow her to live. And there are millions of other children out there not given an equal opportunity to live. Who will stand up for them?

Lord, thank You for Your love and Your justice. I pray for mercy on the unborn and on the women who carry them, for the men who have helped to give them life. I pray for a deeper desire for justice in the world and that you would let me be a beacon of Your unconditional love, for all who are made in Your image - those who know You and those who do not. Amen.

Take Action

Be in prayer about how you can be a voice for the voiceless, fill in the gap, and seek justice for those who have no one on this earth to defend them. Consider volunteering or supporting your local pregnancy crisis center. If you can’t or don’t have the ability to do so, commit to praying for the millions of unborn children whose lives are in limbo at this very moment and for their parents.
