To the world, the Cross is powerless and irrelevant. The crucifixion of Jesus Christ has been referred to as idiotic and inconsequential according to many false religions. The saving authority of the Cross has been reduced to a pile of insults by the earthly intelligent who are scrambling to discredit this truth that continues to stand the test of time, often making believers out of skeptics and atheists.

Prior to becoming a true believer of Jesus Christ and a recipient of his grace, I openly practiced an animosity toward God. The Cross was offensive to my pride-filled arrogance. I believed that I knew better than God and I’d turn away from the mere mention of Christ’s name by those trying to reach me in my wickedness.

My blasphemous ignorance toward an almighty God soon became a very dark and hopeless road that I didn’t even know I was walking down. Yet, God’s abundant grace met me where I was, in spite of my cursings against him. His mercy pierced my reckless ways as I fell in repentance to my knees before the Cross and into a loving embrace.

My supposed wisdom became rubbish in the face of God’s glory, and the error of my ways was all too clear in the presence of a sovereign God. The Cross I once ridiculed erupted into the source of my deepest love for and faith in Jesus Christ. It is the Cross that overcomes the wisdom of the wise of this world, so that they would not perish but experience God’s life changing power for salvation, as I did.

This earth is occupied by people who will perish as a result of their senseless wisdom spoken against the potency of the Cross of Jesus Christ. As believers, let us persevere to live in and openly profess the power and God’s glory in the Cross, while looking forward to the reward of our faith awaiting us in eternity.

Heavenly Father, thank you for saving me from my foolhardy wisdom so long ago. Thank you that I had some sense to follow your lead when I was at the end of myself, and that you enabled me to open my heart to your gift of grace, and receive your Son as my Lord and Savior. Use me to bring that same reality to those perishing due to their worldly wisdom. In Jesus’s name I pray, Amen.

Throughout This Day: Take some time to remember the days and hours leading up to when you received Jesus as your own. Rejoice in that reality, for you were rescued out of your perishing ways. Praise be to God!
