There was an older lady in my church that would give me $1 every week at church starting when I was 4. I thought I was rich. I came back from college, she was still at church, and still gave me a dollar. I think she had never heard of inflation. Besides those dollars, the best piece of advice she ever gave me was “Don’t be an eagle still plucking with the chickens.”

As wise as that lady was, I was mad because she never told me what she meant. Now that I am older and 1/8th as wise as her, I know what that means. God put us here for a purpose. We use his Word and appeal to others to help us figure out what that purpose is. As we grow in faith, we must grow in what we do and what we know.

We must be careful of this though. You do not want to get to a place where you feel you are superior to others, especially non-believers. But you do want to grow in grace and in your experience of the Spirit-filled life. When you know better, you do better. You put off going out partying every weekend, shirking responsibilities, and generally living a less than Christ-like life, in order to lead a life that glorifies Jesus more and more. When you become an adult, you have to put away childish things. You need to start soaring with the eagles, trusting in God’s power to do so, and stop plucking with the chickens.

_Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for showing me that your Spirit enables me to lead a life that is radically different from my old one. Help me to always be a living example of Christ. Please let others see your glory in my life. In Jesus’ name, amen. _

Throughout This Day: Ask God to remind you of the supernatural resources he is giving you through his indwelling Spirit. Trust Christ to live in and through you as you go from task to task in obedience to the Father's will.
