Every day brings a “warzone” for the believer who wants to put God first, and who knows that the world’s culture is against everything that a life dedicated to God represents.
In thinking about the daily battle that faces us, I have become aware of a metaphorical saying that comes out of the gaming world: “Every day brings a warzone everybody."
“It likely refers to a situation where daily life feels chaotic, stressful, or filled with constant competition, mirroring the intense experience of a war zone. This sentiment is often expressed in the context of video games, especially Call of Duty: Warzone, where the gameplay itself is highly competitive and intense.” (Google)
In reality, most of us live in relative peace while watching pictures & videos of wars in other countries on TV. It seems more like a pretend world of war, like an online game, even though we know that it is real for those who are losing loved ones every day. We are lulled by complacency and ease, or too focused on our own daily battles with chaos, stress and competition.
Battles used to involve hand to hand combat. Now, we see and hear of drones, anti-aircraft missiles, and other long distance offensives. We have no real sense of what battle is like, except conceptually. This is also true of spiritual battle. Often, we are not even aware of the fact that we are being attacked spiritually, so subtle are the devil’s tactics! False messages entering our minds, propaganda bombarding us through TV and digital media, causing subtle shifts in the way that we view the world and ourselves, are all very insidious but real.
Father God, thank you that I can have confidence today in knowing that you are fighting my battles for me today. No enemy that I have can withstand your power, and I will rest in the truth that your power is with me. Amen.
Throughout this day: As Christians, perhaps we need to acknowledge that “every day brings a warzone everybody” (even if we do not engage in gaming), because our enemy is as real as the King of Assyria was for Hezekiah and his kingdom. Whoever or whatever your enemy is today, either physical or spiritual, remember that the arm of flesh will never be a match for God’s arm which is mighty in battle on our behalf!
