She had been bleeding for twelve long years and had spent her last penny on another doctor. This woman, after hearing about a man named Jesus, pushed her way through the crowds, despite laws against uncleanness, “because she thought, ‘If I just touch his clothes, I will be healed’” (Mark 5:28).

This woman’s healing faith came from God but required effort on her part too. She sought Jesus in a crowd, and when he asked who had touched his clothes, she answered and told her story. Jesus’ answer: “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering” (Mark 5:34).

In today’s world, it’s comforting to know that healing can come from a persevering faith that says “If I just touch his clothes, I will be healed.” God waits for us to reach out to him in our most vulnerable moments and share our story, the whole story, like this woman shared “the whole truth” (Mark 5:33).

The whole truth does not always come easy with its crowd of emotions. Our feelings can push us away from our faith but can also cement our faith. Spilling out our feelings before our Father allows God to wipe the tears from our eyes, to help us to stand, and to fill us with a no-doubt belief of his promises. Faith heals and brings us into fellowship with the Almighty Healer.

Prayer: God, I know it to be true, my faith belongs in you. May I feel the healing power of faith as I share my thoughts with you. In your name I pray, Amen.

Throughout This Day: Read the story of Hannah in Samuel 1. Reflect on the healing power of faith.
