As we settle into 2021, news streams continue to communicate concerns about the ongoing global health crisis. Often, these messages adversely affect the audience’s perspective by relentlessly repeating negative messages. Consequently, they evoke more anxiety, and fear, and raise questions rather than provide answers. The prevailing question? “When will we return to normal?” Consensus suggests that yesterday’s normal no longer exists. We need to embrace a new normal, yet to be realized.

As Christ-followers, how do we define our new normal amidst unprecedented uncertainty?

Rather than being consumed by fear and anxiety, we need to realize that during both good times and bad times, we must stand out from the crowd. Paul defines our normal as Christ living in us, and by faith, in word and deed, we need to authentically reflect Jesus to a watching and waiting world. People don’t want to only hear about Jesus; they also want to see an authentic reflection of his person and character – even amid so much uncertainty. The world scrutinizes our actions – how we respond speaks volumes to a broken and hurting world. Jesus’ love included giving himself up for us so that we could reflect him to a world desperately seeking a Savior.

Will you embrace God’s new normal? Commit to nurturing a relevant, thriving faith – a faith that a world paralyzed by fear and uncertainty recognizes as a light and a hope for all their tomorrows. God remains sovereign. Keep your eyes on Jesus – immerse yourself in his Word and trust him to live through you to reach those he calls to be his own.   _Dear Heavenly Father, Thank you that you remain sovereign – regardless of circumstances. Empower me through your Spirit and equip me with your Word to reflect Jesus within my sphere of influence. Prepare the hearts of those you have called to be your own. Give me words and wisdom for divinely appointed conversations. _

Throughout This Day: Trust Christ to live in and through you. Rest in his love, power, and peace as you quietly go from task to task.
