Have you ever been so busy at work that when the day is over, you realize you were so focused that you had no time to think about pressing matters at home or outside of work? All of a sudden you begin to wonder where time is going and why your life is slipping by, but you still can’t seem to get ahead — whether it be up the corporate ladder, in your daily tasks, or life goals.

Perhaps you have also noticed that whatever you did that morning before going in to work is completely forgotten by the evening. Or it feels like your past tasks from the morning were done a week ago! Work seems to have that all-consuming effect on most people.

Perhaps the problem is actually induced by a lack of God into our workday. Sure, you can read the Bible and pray before and after work, but for most of the day your focus is on the job for an extensive amount of time. It’s during that harried time that incorporating God into work becomes so important.

We need to readjust and remember Who and what is most important in life — serving our heavenly Father. Adjusting our focus on Him will help us to stay on task, whether that be through the reading of a passage of Scripture on break, speaking of Him to others, or even refreshing our minds with audio content. All are beneficial in helping us grow at work, and letting God consume us instead of our job.

Dear Lord, please forgive me for allowing other things to consume me instead of you. Please allow my heart to be refreshed by your words as I continue to seek you first. Amen.

Go Deeper — Think about what’s acceptable in regards to bringing religious content into your workplace. Should you bring your Bible or use an app? Decide where you can incorporate some time with God, even if it’s just for five minutes. Keep track of the routine you create and make note of the difference!
