When I received a clear call from the Lord to be a prayer warrior in July of 2011, I was immediately humbled. How could I, a sinful woman, be chosen to intercede on the behalf of others? I realize now that God considered my acknowledgment of my own shortcomings to be an important attribute for an intercessor.

He had been training me in the ways of confession, repentance and identifying my waywardness. This training enabled me to pray powerfully and effectively for those who knew and didn’t know the depths of their pain, suffering and sin.

He saw that I could, somehow, direct my pleas to the divine Trinity who possessed the power to take my requests and transform them into something that would bring forth glory, both for the individual needing prayer and the One answering my pleas.

My heavenly Father drew me into him and a sacred space he had prepared for me to fight on my knees for friends, family, strangers and enemies. I even transformed a closet into a war room after watching a movie of the same name. It became my precious sanctuary of communion with the Creator of the universe.

Today’s verse is something I’ve held dear for so long and continues to be a critical element in my relationship with God. When I enter into prayer, every hardship in my life melts away and my focus turns upward. It’s where I hope my devotion as a prayer warrior rises as worship to the One who always answers. I hope to always honor the Lord with my petitions.

The enormous importance of prayer pales in comparison to the One who executes power behind the prayer, Almighty God.

As true believers, we have a responsibility to be a praying people. The Lord holds our lives in his hand and calls us into a quiet chamber where we can submit our requests to God in faith. May we make ourselves available to learn from the Master in how to pray and receive the blessed outcome of being those who pray.

Sovereign Father, I am in awe of being called to pray for others. Thank you for seeing me as someone who you deem fit as your child of prayer, even when I struggle with my worthiness to fulfill this command from long ago. May I bring you glory in what and how I pray. That it would be from a pure and humble heart. I pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Throughout This Day: How is your prayer life? Do you struggle with setting aside time to do it or do you feel inadequate about how to pray? One of the great things about God is that he is always ready to help us in every area we struggle in. So, the next time you sit down for a time of prayer, call out to God for help in how to pray and, soon, you will have a powerful prayer life!
