My husband and I often pray for guidance. We pray for someone to talk to about Jesus, and for the help of the Holy Spirit in what to say. As we reflect upon living in New England, we are encouraged by a brief encounter at the Castle Hill Lighthouse. We are still thankful and amazed at how the Holy Spirit directed our words to encourage and pray for a sweet family we met there. After having a conversation, we learned they needed a home, and immediately, the Holy Spirit guided my husband to pray for them, and the words just rolled off his lips. The Holy Spirit helped him remember the right verses and words to offer them encouragement, hope, and peace.

Jesus called the Holy Spirit our advocate. The English word for advocate has been translated from the Greek word paraclete, which means helper, advisor, or counselor. As our advocate, the Holy Spirit guides us to the truth and will help us to remember the specific scriptures and teach us what to say when we depend upon Him in all situations.

In “Holy Spirit Power” by Charles Spurgeon, he states, “The Lord puts the light of the Spirit within us, and then our light shines. He puts His Spirit so deep down in the heart that the whole nature feels it, and the Holy Spirit's first works quicken us to remember what Jesus taught.” We are so incredibly blessed to have the Holy Spirit to teach us, to give us what we need at the right moment, and to give us something to say.

Lord, help me to incline my heart to desire you and to bring glory to your name. Thank you for the Holy Spirit, who acts as our advocate. We praise you for never failing to help us and for giving us the right words when we need them. Thank you for being the voice of truth.
