“To get wisdom is better than gold; to get understanding is to be chosen rather than silver.” Proverbs 16:16

A couple years ago, my family was going through trying times. We were standing at a crossroads and needed to make a pivotal decision that would affect our future indefinitely. We were desperate for wisdom for our situation.

And it didn’t come quick or without a lot of prayer. After over seven months of praying and seeking godly advice from others around us, we made the decision we believed God was guiding us to make.

It wasn’t necessarily easy, and things didn’t fall into place immediately. However, looking back at the journey of pursuing God’s wisdom, we can say without a shadow of a doubt that following God’s ways instead of our own gave us peace, confidence, and a renewed strength to put our trust fully in Him.

“Get Wisdom. Get insight.” Proverbs 4:5

We often walk through life seeking out the things we desire and want out of it. We look for happiness, success, love… and yet God challenges us to seek out His wisdom. In fact, seeking God’s wisdom should be the aim of our lives.

God’s wisdom may look differently than what we expect; most of the time, it won’t line up with the advice the world gives us. If our family would have relied on the world’s wisdom, we could have been left in an even bigger mess, with hearts full of doubt.

So even though it might be frowned upon and questioned, once we prize it highly and embrace it, God’s wisdom is more valuable than all the gold or silver in the world.

Father God, thank You that in You I have all things. Thank you that You are the source of wisdom and that when I come to You through Your Son Jesus, I know and am assured that what You have to offer me is better than gold. I humbly ask that You would give me wisdom in _____ (state your situation). Give me ears to hear and eyes to see what You have for me. Amen.

Take Action

The Bible is the perfect place to begin when desiring wisdom. Filling your mind with God’s Word is vital to knowing who God is and how He works. This week, be intentional when you read and meditate on the Bible. Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal to you the wisdom He would like to give to you.
