Before time. Before you. Before me. There was God! Before the foundation, the creation of the world - God loved.
We know from John 1:1 that the Word was with God in the beginning, and the Word was God. Genesis 1:2 tells us the Spirit of God hovered over the earth.
In Genesis 1:27 we are told that God created human beings. In the preceding verses of Genesis 1, we learn the details of how God created the world he had in mind for the people to enjoy. Genesis 3:8-9 tells us that originally God walked and talked with the first humans, showing his love and desire for fellowship with them. Another reference to God’s love for each person stretching back to before the foundation of the world is in II Timothy 1:9.
God declared in Revelation 1:8, “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.” Before time, outside of time, as humans experience it - God and the love of God for each one of us exists eternally. It is unfathomable to our finite minds. Yet, the truth of the matter is clear. God was before all we know to be and he loved the world.
Truth cannot exist without the Holy Trinity. This truth was and is God. And the truth I share is that God loved before time, before the foundation, and before the creation of the world. What a blessing! May we receive this gift with gratitude and respect, although we cannot begin to grasp its full extent.
No matter your circumstances today, I encourage you to rest in this promise that God’s love for you is eternal:
But from everlasting to everlasting the Lord’s love is with those who fear him,
and his righteousness with their children’s children—
with those who keep his covenant and remember to obey his precepts.
(Psalm 103:17-18 NIV)
Heavenly Father, thank you that before anything I can see - you were and with that promise is your love for me. Please help me to rest in your truth that is beyond what I can comprehend. I desire to live each day in your everlasting love. In Jesus’s name, I pray. Amen.
Throughout this day: As you spend quiet prayer time with the Lord, meditate on verses about walking with God such as Micah 3:8 or the everlasting love of God in Jeremiah 31:3. Take in these powerful reminders that our God is greater than anything you are facing in life and his love is more enveloping than you can imagine.
