"Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last. I am the Living One; I was dead, and now look, I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades." Revelation 1:17-18

Do you remember when “NO FEAR” was a popular slogan that proliferated bumper stickers, posters, hats, t-shirts, and even the odd tattoo? As far as marketing campaigns go, it would be considered a great success, but it never really presented a foundation for being fearless. Being told to have “no fear” didn’t actually motivate people to be courageous. The fad didn’t really produce fearlessness.

Look at the way the Lord presents fearlessness when He tells John to “not be afraid” ... “I am the First and the Last. I am the Living One; I was dead, and now look, I am alive for ever and ever!” (Revelation 1:17-18)

Jesus calls us to fearlessness based on His resurrection. The living Christ is defined by love; love isn’t just something Jesus does; it is who He is (1 john 4:8) and “perfect love casts out all fear.” (I John 4:18)

There are all sorts of fears: failure, rejection, insignificance, pain. Ours are as unique as we are, but because Jesus will always live and always love, we can put our trust in Him…always.

Jesus I trust You with my whole life, and I trust You with my specific fears as well. You conquered death and will live and love forever, so I ask You now to help me overcome my fears.

Take Action

This week, when you are confronted with fearful thoughts, instead of trying to convince yourself to have “no fear,” fix your mind on the fact that not even death could defeat Jesus, and that He loves you. Hebrews 12:1-2 is a great passage to help you focus on Jesus. That's also the whole point of our series: Treasure: Jesus is Worth Everything.
