She looks well to the ways of her household, And does not eat the bread of idleness. 28 Her children rise up and bless her; Her husband also, and he praises her, saying: 29 “Many daughters have done nobly, But you excel them all.” Proverbs 31:27-29 NASB

I love helping others but at the end of the day making sure God is pleased with how I managed my time and how my family views me is what really matters. Even if it means helping with homework when I am worn out; setting aside my cell phone in the evenings when I return home; giving direct eye contact when they are willing to sit and talk. I want to be the mom and the wife that is present. I want to leave a legacy and an impact upon the young men and the young lady I have been given steward over. I want to make sure that they are prepared to walk in character and integrity. I want to be the cheerleader for my husband when he is down and in need of a pep talk. I want to be present, no longer consumed with my accomplishments and ambitions to the point that I forget to live in the here and now.

I challenge you also to begin to show up and be present in the everyday moments of life. Make the most of every opportunity. Don’t allow the gift of today to be wasted in the hustle and bustle of everyday life.  Let us make a decision to take back our homes by showing up! Our dreams and ambitions are so much more rewarding when we have someone to share them with.

Is maintaining balance a challenge for you?

Father, thank you for teaching us wisdom in our everyday lives. May we learn to give our attention where it is most needed. May we be content with where we are right now until you move us to the next phase. Teach us how to balance our lives and our ambitions. Help us to remember for most of us you gave us family before you gave us ministry. Help us to take advantage of the little moments we have with our loved ones and not take for granted that they will always be there. We thank you for always being present in our lives and may we follow your example. In Jesus' name, amen.

Take Action

Take a moment to do an honest assessment of how you handle your time with your family or friends. Is much of that time spent multi-tasking? What changes can you make today to change that?
