I was facing an undesirable circumstance. I could not see a solution. Then I woke up one morning and heard in my spirit, “Be still, and know that I am God.”

“Be still” suggests that the unwanted situation has the potential to move us towards the wrong direction. In order to be calm, we are to triage our thoughts by accepting peaceful thoughts and rejecting the ones that do not lead towards peace.

“Know that I am God” means acknowledging He is the Almighty. He is powerful. He is bigger than any trouble that comes our way. Know that He is more than able to fix things. The outcome will be positive. Let’s keep our minds off the difficulties, and instead keep our minds on Him. Lean on Him if we feel weak. He is strong enough.

Grasp who God is. He is good. He is kind. He will help us.

Sometimes He will tell us how, and other times He won’t. Trust Him. He is reliable. Know that He is at work even when things seem hopeless. God will show up just at the right time.

When we look back on the hard times, often we are able see that our situation wasn’t as unmanageable as we thought because He was there with us. So, the next time fear looms, we can save our energy and recall this scripture. Peace will flood our lives. The more we reflect on God’s ability, the easier it will become to “be still.

Father God, I ask you to help me to be still even when I can’t figure things out. Give me the peace that surpasses all understanding. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Go Deeper — Memorize the verse above. It’s short and easy. You will reap the reward as it will surface in your spirit when you need to be calm.
