I have been emotionally hurt by being sinned against. I have found that when I immediately praise the Lord, it neutralizes that poisonous dart. Instead of allowing the hurt to fester into unforgiveness, gratitude can become my heart’s sacrifice that will honor the Lord.

Hateful words hurt, maim, cripple, and crush. What a person calls you is not who you are. You are made in the image of God. You are of great value to the Lord Jesus who died for you. He bore the sins against you, as well as the sins that you commit—past, present, and future.

We often erect emotional walls in our heart because our spirit has been crushed by death words. This is not God’s way. His way to freedom is through life-giving words.

Instead of getting stuck in the crucible of a crushed spirit, live your day with an attitude of gratitude. Praise the Lord in your heart. When our heart is lifted up in praise, the power of life flows through every cell and tissue.

The Holy Spirit taught me years ago that an attitude of gratitude dispels negativity. Gratitude is like a sponge that soaks up and wipes away the negative atmosphere that is ripe for fleshly reactions.

Our praise opens the way for the Lord to permeate our space. As we confess our unforgiveness toward those who have hurt us with their death words, we can offer up a sacrifice of praise. Thanksgiving is the fruit of our lips.

Father God, thank you for granting forgiveness through Jesus’ death. Help us to live in an attitude of gratitude. We want to honor you with the fruit of our lips. You are worthy of all praise. Amen.

Throughout this Day: Is there a wound that is festering from an old hurt in your life? Talk to God about it, and then ask the Holy Spirit to help you choose gratitude for God’s presence and mercy in your life today.
