As I anticipate the coming new year, I reflect on last year as a year of introspection and retrospection — realizing it is easy to lose perspective. The year 2020 forced me and others to rethink the normality of daily life: a life that confronts our earthly routines, insecurities, and comforts — compelling us to recalibrate our perspective and reassess and prioritize what is important. As a Jesus follower, do I nurture my spirit sufficiently to mature? Do I live life with a Kingdom perspective?

In Luke 12, Jesus challenges us to keep a proper perspective. He implores us not to worry about our daily needs. In fact, we cannot increase our lifespan by one hour by worrying about our needs. God values us more than anything else in creation. He knows our needs and will provide accordingly. He also emphasises that life is more than our perceived practical needs. Concluding, Jesus commands us to prioritize his Kingdom and the Father will provide everything else we need for life.

We live in a world of contending distractions competing for our time and attention. As we prepare our hearts, minds, and spirits for another trip around the sun, consider one year’s elements: 12 months, 52 weeks, 365 days, 8760 hours, 525,600 minutes. This New Year, let us take time to recalibrate our perspective, refine our resolutions, renew our resolve, and reignite our commitment to nurturing a Kingdom mindset and lifestyle. Jesus challenges, calls and commissions us to prioritize his Kingdom and he will provide our every need.

Dear Heavenly Father,  Recalibrate my perspective, refine my resolutions, renew my resolve, and reignite my commitment to nurturing a Kingdom mindset and lifestyle — with the assurance that when I seek first your Kingdom, you will provide all my needs.

Throughout This Day: Thank God often for the privilege of being a citizen of his eternal Kingdom, and invite him to show you ways to seek that Kingdom throughout the day.
