Can you remember a time when the Holy Spirit redirected you? Our flesh wants its own way but the anointing within will coach us onto God’s path in every circumstance.

Years ago I drove to another city for an appointment. As I entered the city, there was a bad accident and both lanes were closed. I sat for a half-hour before traffic moved again. So I rescheduled my appointment and proceeded to drive home. An incredible series of events followed.

As I started moving forward, I saw steam coming up from under my hood. I parked in front of a post office. An older fellow said he had some bottled water to put in my radiator. I thanked him and headed out again.

As I signaled to turn left, the Holy Spirit told me to go right. I asked him where he wanted me to go. It started to rain, and as I turned on my wipers, they quit. After getting a screw tightened on the blades’ mechanism, I walked into a restaurant, exhausted and hungry. There was my friend from another country who’d just arrived with his family. I spent a pleasant time with them, sharing my lesson learned.

I kept trying to turn toward home but each time, the Holy Spirit resisted me. It is a lesson I have never forgotten. I personally love how the Holy Spirit leads us through resistance. We can absolutely depend on him to divert our way toward something better. I’m grateful for our masterful orchestrator, aren’t you?

Father, thank you for the work of your Holy Spirit in our lives. He directs and guides us into your way. Help us to be humble, responsive, obedient, and to wait for clear direction. Amen.
