“Call on Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honor Me.” Psalm 50:15

“Anything that brings you to your knees in prayer is a good thing.” Easier said than done. Though this quote is easy to spout off, it’s hard to be certain of when we’re in the midst of an overwhelming trial.

As it must have been for the tribe of Judah, God’s chosen people, as He sent them into Babylonian captivity. God said to them in Jeremiah 29:11, “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’”

I love the how the KJV translates the end of the verse: “‘…to give you an expected end.’”

God knows the end result of the things He allows to touch our lives or that He sovereignly sends. Actually, one meaning of the word “good” in Hebrew is, “capable of accomplishing God’s designed purpose.”

What “expected end” does God want for us? Jeremiah 29:12-13 says, “Then you will call on Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. You will seek Me and find Me when you seek Me with all your heart.”

As today’s verse emphasizes, God longs for us to spend time with Him in prayer, just as He did the people of Judah. He yearns for us to seek Him regardless of our situation, so that He may intervene on our behalf. And as a result, we will honor Him.

Thank You, Father that we can bring any need to You in prayer. Thank You that we have the confidence that You hear us and will answer us according to Your perfect will for our lives. Amen.

Take Action

If you don’t keep a prayer journal, today is a good time to start. Record your prayers. When God provides an answer, write the date beside the prayer request. It will become a written record of His faithfulness.
