Jesus divided people. He still does.

In John 9, Jesus heals a man born blind. One group of people evaluate this and conclude that Jesus sinned. The other group concludes that He was sent by God. The different reactions reveal two very different perspectives.

The first group looked to what they know, to what is familiar. The healing occurred on the Sabbath. In their view God doesn’t work on the Sabbath, and therefore Jesus was not from God but a trickster, a fraud.

The other group looked to the healing. This group, saw beyond the familiar to the result. A man born blind experienced an amazing restoration of sight. They concluded Jesus was from God. So there was a deep division among them.

What did the man who was healed think?

“Why this is an amazing thing,” he said. “Never since the world began has anyone been able to open the eyes of someone born blind. If this man were not from God, he couldn’t do it” (John 9:32).

Today, many people still look to what they believe they know. The content of their knowledge is different, but the result is the same. Jesus, whatever else He may have been, was not from God.

But there is another group of us who know the truth. We have been healed ― emotionally, spiritually, and some of us physically. Jesus was, and is, from God. Nothing less can account for what He has done for us. We know, and believe, and give thanks!

Lord, thank you for what you have done for me. You are truly from God, and I worship you. Amen.

Go Deeper — Be very specific and thank God for what He has done for you. List the top three or four things. Give thanks.
