What a wonderful thing to know the mercies of the Lord. Even more – because of His mercies, we are not consumed. The definition of consumed is used up or destroyed. When I take a look at this Scripture and replace consumed with used up or destroyed, the context is given such a beautiful clarity. His mercies keep us, protect us – from being destroyed. We are not consumed or destroyed because his compassions fail not. Another translation puts it this way: “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases.” This brings me to my knees in humble gratitude to my God.

Furthermore, His mercies are new every morning. The next verse sums everything up with the resounding and reverberated message – great is Thy faithfulness! These words are so powerful and impactful that voices have been, and continue to declare it in song at churches, cathedrals, stadiums, homes, hospitals and even at services to celebrate the life of someone who has died. I don’t know about you, friend, but what I glean here is that God is ENOUGH. No matter our situation, fears, victories, or concerns - our God is ENOUGH. It is declared right here in Lamentations 3:22 and 23 - because of His mercies, we are not consumed and His compassions do not fail. They are new every morning. Great is His faithfulness!

How amazing is the realization that our God IS enough? You can know he is enough when you lose that dear someone who has loved you your whole life. He is enough when you have waited and waited for the right career opportunity and you continue to trust him to lead and guide your every step. You can be assured he is enough when relationships you thought would always be there, turn out to be the ones that betray and hurt you. He is enough when you find out you are expecting your first baby, but miscarriage is what you know instead. He is enough!

Even if the realization that God is enough has to take place newly every morning – he is faithful. His faithfulness in life’s unexpected, uncomfortable and unabated circumstances is the reminder that HE IS ENOUGH for you and me.

Praise the Lamb of God!

Father God, thank you that your word gives me the understanding that we are not consumed because of your mercies and that your compassions never fail. Every morning they are new and remind me that great is your faithfulness. Thank you, Lord, that this confirms at all times you are enough for me.
