The book of Ezekiel closes with a stunning vision of God’s restoration of all things. The detailed descriptions of gates, courtyards, and chambers measured out in cubits can be difficult to follow, but the sum of it all is clear — “The Lord Is There.” His presence is with his people.

When is the Lord present? Always. Hebrews 13:5 teaches us, “I will never leave nor forsake you.”

In the hospital room where you are facing surgery or flat on your back in pain, the Lord is there. He is not distant but near.

When you are worn down by worries and concerns, the Lord is there. He is not far off but with you.

As you age and the days of this life grow short, the Lord is there and always will be.

When you are rejoicing in the birth of a child, a wedding, a holiday, or a birthday, the Lord is there. He is a God of celebration who shares in our joys.

Yes! God is there in all the twists and turns of life. In suffering and rejoicing, in weeping and laughter, in prayer and in the activities of life, he is there.

There is so much to learn and to know about our God, but this is one of the greatest promises we have. The Lord really is there with us. And he always will be.

Lord, my thoughts and feelings are sometimes a riot of contradictions and doubts. And sometimes there is faith, too. My prayer is to live each moment more thoroughly convinced that you are there with me. Guide my mind. Settle my heart in your presence. You are there! Amen.
