I am what is known as an introvert. This verse is really not one I wanted to hear God say to me. I could never understand how people can meet a stranger and hold a 30-minute conversation with them. That is amazing and terrifying to me at the same time. I once worked with a guy for five years and never learned his name. Best friend I ever had. We still never talk sometimes.

But seriously, what if we took that step out of our comfort zone? What if we spoke to that person that we would never talk to in a million years without the power of God behind us?

When we align ourselves with Christ, we become a new creature, one who is not afraid to spread the gospel. But like with anything else, it takes practice. Do it even if you are afraid. Do it while your heart is about to beat out of your chest. Do it when you feel like you could pass out or throw up at any second.

The next time you try, it will be a little easier, and by the 47th time you try it you might be great at it. You might still have those same heart palpitations by the 102nd time, but by this point you will have realized that God is behind you 100 percent and there is nothing in heaven or earth that can stop you from being the child of God he has called you to be. Bottom line: go all in for God, not “some in.”

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for helping me to realize that you did not give us the spirit of fear, but of power. Please help me to realize the new creation you have made me to be and to go forth with that power at my disposal. In Jesus’ name, amen.
