As a single mother of four I struggled with trusting God to provide our daily bread, which prevented me from giving tithes. Except for a can of corn and a few potatoes, the cupboard sat bare.

It appeared that if I paid my tithes, the four little bellies would go to bed hungry. As I struggled with this possible reality, God heavily impressed upon my heart to trust Him as Malachi 3:10 states, “Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.”

Before we left for church that Sunday morning, it was settled. I would give God the tithe that was rightfully His. I felt a sense of anticipation as to how God would provide our daily bread.

As we were leaving church, an elderly, often cantankerous and grumpy lady, yelled for me to come into the fellowship hall. When I timidly did, I received my daily provision — chicken! She said the local grocery had a sale. She went on to say she thought since I had four children it wouldn’t go to waste. It didn’t, in more ways than one. God used it to teach me He would provide our daily bread just as He had said.

He will do the same for you if you do what Scripture says and trust Him to keep His promise.

God, may we trust you to provide all our physical needs as abundantly as you have provided for all our spiritual needs. Amen.
