Are you tired today? Do you feel burdened?

Our lives on Earth have never been perfect or devoid of trials. Recently, the world has felt even more tumultuous with the distressing news of pestilence, political unrest, and growing division. How easy it is to grow weary and heavy laden when we pair the disorder of the world with the hardships in our own lives! We are weary because we are overloaded with anxiety, pressure, and stress. We may even find ourselves struggling to be the people we think God wants us to be!

But through the disarray, Jesus promises us the sweetest relief. “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest . . . for my yoke is easy, and my burden is light” (Matthew 11:28-30). In the simplest of terms, Jesus tells us that for the weight to be lifted, for the rest to be had, we are simply called to come to him.

If we are feeling heavy laden, burdened by responsibilities, feeling called to do more than we can handle, wringing our hands as we watch the world crumble in front of us — that is not his burden. Jesus tells us his burden is light. Our response to the world and things in our life should not be heavy, because Jesus tells us his burden is not heavy. His burden is light.

Today, allow yourself to let go of the heaviness that wears you down. Go to Jesus, and rest in the shelter of his loving wings, knowing he is sovereign over all.

Heavenly Father, please help me to let go of the anxieties and stresses that so often weigh me down! Help me to rest in you and find comfort in knowing you alone are in control.

Throughout This Day: Every time you catch yourself being worried or weighed down, surrender every worry and anxiety to Jesus, knowing his will is perfect, even when it is difficult.
