“Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!” Isaiah 6.8

I was in the final minutes of preparation for a family birthday luncheon when the phone rang. When the first words out of my brother’s mouth were, Are you sitting down? I knew God wanted me to stop everything I was doing and to just be there for him.

My brother let me know that the experimental treatments for his cancer had been ineffective and that the doctor had given him less than 4 months to live. He had phoned to ask a question, Am I really going to go to heaven? I feel like such a hypocrite, coming to Jesus at the end of my life.

It was a wonderful opportunity to confirm His faith in Jesus and to encourage Him to go through his last days with Jesus as Lord. As he prayed with me, confirming his repentance, trust in Jesus, and desire to live for Him and with Him forever, peace descended on his heart and on mine. I asked him if he wanted to speak to our mom and passed the phone on to her before finishing the meal preparation. My heart filled with a strange joy, because once again, I had seen God interrupt my busy schedule to minister to someone I love deeply.

Over the years, I have learned to write my schedule in pencil, so that Jesus can interrupt my plans whenever He wants to. And every time He has, it has led to His miraculous intervention in someone’s life. Every single time.

Jesus, Thank You for teaching me to be sensitive to Your leading, so that I know when You are interrrupting my plans. Thank You for all the times I have seen You at work in people’s lives because of those divine interruptions. May I continue to write out my schedule in pencil rather than in pen, so that you can change my plans anytime you want, for your glory. Amen.

Take Action

Today, invite Jesus to interrupt your plans any time He wants so that He can use you to minister to anyone He wants.
