The Passion of the Christ Recut
Montreal, Quebec, March 2, 2005 - Equinoxe Films today announced that it will release Icon Productions’ THE PASSION RECUT, directed by Mel Gibson, in most major markets across Canada on Friday, March 11, 2005, day-and-date with the United States. The announcement was made by Michael Mosca, Senior Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer of Equinoxe Films.
THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST opened in Canada last year on February 25 and took in over $25 million at the Canadian box office and $611 million world-wide, making the film the ninth highest grossing American film of all time and the top-grossing R-rated film ever. The film also garnered three Academy Award ® nominations: Caleb Deschanel for Cinematography, John Debney for Original Score, and Keith Vanderlaan and Christien Tinsley for Make-up.
“We have been receiving requests to re-release the film around the Easter holiday for several weeks,” said Michael Mosca. “When we learned that Mel Gibson had recut a softer version that appealed to a broader audience, we felt this was an excellent opportunity to try and reach a wider audience, particularly families.”
THE PASSION RECUT will open in 40-50 markets in Canada on March 11 and is expected to run through the Easter weekend.
THE PASSION RECUT is an Icon Production of A Mel Gibson Film. Directed by Mel Gibson, the film stars Jim Caviezel, Monica Bellucci, Maia Morgenstern and Sergio Rubini. Mel Gibson, Bruce Davey and Stephen McEveety are the producers, and Enzo Sisti is executive producer. The screenplay is by Benedict Fitzgerald and Mel Gibson; the music is by John Debney; the Director of Photography is Caleb Deschanel, ASC; the Film Editor is John Wright, A.C.E.; the Production Designer is Francesco Frigeri; the Costume Designer is Maurizio Millenotti; the Casting is by Shaila Rubin. The soundtrack is available on Sony Music/Integrity Music.
