Can You Believe in a God You Cannot See?
I love God because even though I can not see him physically, I see him everywhere:
I see him through nature. I love to play golf and get out there and just “take in” the beauty of the course, the trees, the birds, etc. The verse “Be still and know that I am God” always comes to mind when I play golf or stand at the seashore, admiring God’s creation.
I see him in his Word. By reading the Bible I see the character and personality of God. I learn of his hopes; his desire for me; his plan for humankind. I also learn of his anger and his wrath against sin.
I see him in the prophets’ writings and throughout history. I read the history of the churches and learn the wisdom spoken by God through man to us (then and today). There are many lessons learned by seeing how God has worked through and in others, both in history and through prophecy still being fulfilled. I see how he has worked through Judea, Samaria and the uttermost parts of the world.
I see him through answered prayer. When I seek him in prayer, I can usually look back in hindsight and see how he has answered each prayer. Oh, how I tend to forget quickly some of the prayers—so I keep a little journal of answered prayers. It reminds that God is always with me and listening to my prayers.
I see him in others. I see the mighty work of God carried out every day by believers. Oh, these are nameless and faceless folks who will never make the news but are faithful to their jobs, families, spouses, and friends. Their integrity, honesty, commitment to others and advocacy of Jesus are clearly seen in all they do and all they are.
