End of the Spear

by Tim Woody

About a month ago, I was offered the opportunity to attend a screening of End of the Spear. I really couldn’t pass it up because the church offices were closed today for the New Year’s Day holiday, and I know I’d be looking for something to do. I was privileged to experience this movie firsthand today. The truth is, after seeing it twelve hours ago, I’m still emotionally overwhelmed. It was that good!

End of the Spear begins with the story of five brave missionaries who penetrated the rainforest of Ecuador with the gospel fifty years ago (1956). Their passion was to reach a certain tribe of jungle natives whose existence was marked by violence, blood and murder.

The movie is narrated by actor, Chad Allen, who portrays Steve Saint, the son of Nate Saint, who was martyred in the rainforest while attempting to connect with the natives.

In my opinion, End of the Spear is the most powerful motion picture I’ve witnessed since The Passion of the Christ. The movie made a powerful emotional impact on me, only in the way a true story can. It went straight to the core of what my faith is all about in a story filled with adventure, love, suspense, drama, sacrifice, and surprises.

This movie will inspire you to color outside the lines and cross "forbidden" territory to make a difference for Jesus in your world. It is by far the best missions-oriented film ever made.

Now that I’ve viewed the movie, I’m planning to rent a theatre to get as many people as possible to view it.

When you see the movie, be sure and stay through at least the first part of the credits! An interview with Steve Saint, the main character, wraps up the movie wonderfully. This is the only time I’ve ever both laughed and cried during the credits of a movie.

End of the Spear is a top-notch movie. If you see any movie in 2006, make it End of the Spear! It will be in theatres on January 20th.
