Decisions! Decisions!
by Gail RodgersThis morning in our news there was an announcement from a prominent politician in our region. She resigned her position for “deeply personal” reasons. She went on to explain that the government would find another politician but her young child would not get another mother. A wise mother had obviously grappled with the many aspects of her decision.
Decision making comes to all of us. We all have inconsequential decisions that affect only the moment…and then there are those decisions which affect our life path and those who are close to us.
Often we tend to get caught up in certain aspects of a decision. Yet healthy decision making will look at the four quadrants of our being and choose what is best for us and those closest to us.
- The physical aspect is important. We need to ask what the repercussions will be financially or in terms of relocating the family or altering family schedules and time together.
- The emotional implications of a decision are important too. The passion or pleasure we gain in deciding one way or the emotional drain we experience in choosing the alternate helps us to make our choice.
- How a decision affects us mentally is good to think about as well. Is there a challenge or growth for one without negatively affecting others in the close circle?
Whatever decision you face today consider how it will also affect you spiritually.
- Will it allow you to maintain contact with others who have the same values?
- Will it allow you to maintain your choice to nurture your spirit?
- How will your decision affect those you love in their spiritual lives?
In all your decision making choose first to look at how each decision will affect you and your household in your ability to love one another and grow spiritually.
“Indecision is still a decision.”
