This, then, is how you ought to regard us: as servants of Christ and as those entrusted with the mysteries God has revealed. Now it is required that those who have been given a trust must prove faithful.” 1 Corinthians 4: 1-2

Traditionally, for me, the New Year is a time for celebration, reflection, and expectation. It is a time of new beginnings – when personal promises and pledges provide a fresh start to the year ahead. Like many believers, especially in affluent North American culture, the New Year is a time for me to thank God for His abundant blessing and provision. However, regrettably, and often unintentionally, I overlook that I am called to be a beneficiary and custodian of Heaven’s true treasure – the gospel.

Believers often associate stewardship with managing finances, possessions, gifting, and talents. However, what’s sometimes forgotten is that scripture repeatedly reminds us that we are the caretakers of an invaluable trust, and that God calls us to faithfully share that trust (the gospel) with those in our sphere of influence. Jesus called and commissioned us to be His ambassadors – entrusted with increasing His divine investment. Paul’s epistles reiterate the urgency and necessity of faithful stewardship – reminding us that “as those entrusted,” we “who have been given a trust must prove faithful.”

As you begin this New Year, may you prayerfully reflect on God’s call to stewardship. Ask yourself, “How can I reprioritize sharing the gospel with family, friends, and others?” Take what God entrusted to you. Increase and perpetuate its value – creating a ripple effect for His kingdom and glory. Remember, Jesus invested His life for you. Now, He asks you to do likewise. May there be a renewed urgency in your resolve and calling. May He always enable you to “prove faithful.”

Thank You for entrusting me with Your greatest treasure. Empower me, through the Holy Spirit, to be a better steward of the gospel. Open up opportunities for me to share the gospel intentionally and purposely with those in my sphere of influence. For Your honour and Glory, amen.
