There are so many couples that are stuck in the stagnant rut of day to day living. We get lulled into thinking we don’t need to win over our spouse anymore because we’re married. We start out in this euphoria, but we hit the hurdle when it fades into the reality of life.
We have to wake up to the love languages. People are missing each other because they haven’t come to understand them, that our spouses have specific needs. Just like a person has a need for water, food, or sleep, there are specific love needs.
Learn and understand what the 5 love languages are. (Quality time, physical touch, words of affirmation, receiving gifts, acts of service) Take the love language test to discover what your love language is and which one is your spouse’s. Make the effort to understand the 5 languages and personalize it to your spouse so you don’t miss each other anymore.
The love isn’t gone, it’s just been vacant for a while. People have intentions to love, but if they don’t feel like they’re being appreciated for what they’re doing, then they’ll say why bother? But if an effort is made to understand and show love in a way that makes sense to your spouse, then that love can be rekindled.

I am 50 and been married to a great gal for 22 yrs. We have grown apart a bit over the yrs. We have 2 daughters 19&21 and I’m worried about my wife and I after the girls are gone, which will be soon. I saw in today’s devotion a comment to take the love language test. Where can I find this test as I would like to identify her languages for sure. We are both born again and serving Christ. We have been thru a lot but are committed to Christ, which is the only reason our marriage has survived. I want to be sure to do what I need to finish strong as I know God wants to use us individualy and as a couple. Thanks

Mark, to take the love language test, click on the link “love language test” in the devotion or go to http://www.fivelovelanguages.com/30sec.html (you will need flash enabled on your web browser). Go through the descriptions of each love language with your wife, and see which one describes each of you the best. May God bless you both as you discover how to love your wife even better.
You can also go to http://marriageuncensored.com/ to see other episodes of Marriage Uncensored or to ask Dr. Dave a question.
